Finding Accomplishment and Social Connection

I volunteer at Parker Senior Center to feel a sense of accomplishment outside my home. After COVID, I helped reorganize the library when the previous volunteer could no longer continue. This ongoing project motivates me to persist. Above all, the social interaction at the Center has been the most rewarding part of my experience. Working with both books and people has enriched my life in ways simply staying at home could not.

Teaching Tai Chi for Community Well-being

I began teaching Tai Chi at the Center in February 1997. Since then, the suggested $5 donation has remained unchanged, helping with administrative costs and personal expenses. I volunteer out of a desire to contribute and be part of something larger. Tai Chi has transformed my health and well-being, and I am passionate about sharing its benefits. The program is accessible to all ages and conditions, focusing on simple practices to reduce stress and enhance vitality for a lifetime.

Creating Community through Library Volunteering

I assist Liz, the librarian, with organizing and shelving books and puzzles. Volunteering at the library and special events gives me a sense of belonging and connects me with other members. Contributing to the community in this way is highly rewarding.

Honoring a Tradition of Service

I volunteer because I enjoy the Center’s activities and friendships, and because my family instilled in me the value of giving time to worthwhile causes. While I can crochet and read at home, volunteering provides companionship and community.

Giving Back Through Varied Activities

The Center supports my physical, mental, and emotional well-being through exercise classes, card games, and social opportunities. Volunteering is my way of giving back and ensuring the Center remains a safe haven for active seniors.

Serving with Gratitude and Joy

Having enjoyed bunco and bingo at the Center, I decided to volunteer here. The positive atmosphere and enjoyable company during my shifts make volunteering a true blessing. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve fellow seniors.

Volunteering gives me the opportunity to 1) give back, 2) use my talents, 3) feel a part of something bigger than myself, and 4) make a difference. Bottom line: volunteering makes me feel good and good things happen because I'm volunteering. Win-win! Donna F. 8-13-2025

After I retired, I moved to Parker in order to be closer to my family. Other than family, I did not know one other person in Colorado. I decided to join the Parker Senior Center (PSC) as a way of meeting new people, socializing, and being around other people with similar interests and experiences. I have always been very active, and was also looking for a way to stay active and get involved in the local community. PSC offered a wide range of activities and volunteer opportunities. I participate in exercise classes, workshops and cultural outings. Volunteer opportunities at PSC give me a sense of purpose and a way to give back to the local community. I especially enjoy helping in the kitchen preparing the weekday lunches. Getting involved at PSC is the best decision I made for both my physical and mental well-being now that I am retired! Thirteen years ago, my neighbor was a member of Parker Senior Center, and he volunteered to pick up groceries at Safeway every morning. Because of his volunteering, I decided to join PSC in 2013 and helped with the placements of the groceries on the table for distribution. Covid arrived, the Center closed, and I stopped going to the Center.

In 2024, I was asked if I would serve on the Long-Range Planning Committee. If I had not been asking, I would probably not be volunteering at the Center today. Working with three other volunteer members of the LRPC, a plan was published. During that time, I formed new relationships with the other committee members that are very meaningful to me. We all shared a sense of accomplishment completing the task of writing a detailed Long-Range Plan that has been adopted by the Center and the Town of Parker as a plan for the Town of Parker’s future seniors.

In October 2024, I planned with the help of Jill R. and numerous other volunteers, a spaghetti dinner which was held at the Center that made PSC over $2000. In June 2025, I volunteered with the help of Marie G. and numerous volunteers plan the first Flippin Flapjack’s Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale since covid. The income made was not as large as some other fundraisers, but Marie and I enjoyed the planning and socialization with the other volunteers that worked together to make these events happen and seeing our members and their families in attendance supporting the events and spending rewarding time together.

Rather being a part of the Long-Range Plan Committee, enjoyed the fellowship of planning events, or volunteering to be on the board of directors, I believe my volunteering makes a difference by being involved. Currently, the Parker Senior Center has over 100 plus volunteers. Without those generous volunteers giving their time and efforts, the Center could not exist. I am proud to be one of those volunteers and invite any member who wants to be involved to do so. You will be happy that you volunteered. Jim A. 7-17-2025
